Located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, Margasusi Home is a well-equipped hostel for girls with a capacity to house 50 to 55 children. It has spacious dormitories, dining area, play area, kitchen, and recreational facilities in a lush green mini-campus.

Since 1988, Vidyanikethan is managing Margasusi Home, which is providing children of female sex workers (FSW) and girls who have been victims of under-age marriage and/or different forms of abuse and neglect access to essential services, opportunities and facilities. As a result, the girls are able to transform their lives in a holistic and sustainable manner.

Key signs of change

  • Improvement in physical wellness due to the fresh and nourishing food served on time and participation in yoga and physical exercises
  • Interest in academics and improvement in marks due to support given by volunteers and staff in their homework and preparation of exams
  • Improvement in overall attitude as they begin to mingle and bond with the rest of the girls and engage in various recreational activities
  • Subsequent to counselling and regular career guidance, goal setting by girls where they plan their academic and vocational aspirations
  • Psychological counselling has helped many to overcome their traumatic past and start to rebuild their life by applying themselves to their studies and engaging in recreational activities.

7. Of the 205 girls who have appeared for their 12th class and 10th class exams, 72 have scored 1st Class.
8. Number of girls continuing their education by joining college or are pursing vocational courses: 22
9. Number of girls who have joined engineering and medicine: 2
10. About 20 girls are working now earning approximately Rs. 12000/- per month.

The girls have joined courses such as Diploma in Nursing, Diploma in ITI, Diploma in Lab Technician, Diploma in A and M, BSc in Nursing. Two girls have even joined engineering and medicine after clearing the entrance exams.
